Q: What is the context of the Bhagavad Gita?

A: The conversation takes place on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, where Arjuna, a warrior, faces a war between factions of his own family. Struggling with doubts about the morality of killing and the consequences of war, Arjuna seeks guidance from Krishna, who serves as his charioteer. Q: Do I need to read the entire Bhagavad Gita to benefit from its teachings?
A: Understanding the entire Bhagavad Gita requires significant time and concentration, but its key messages can be accessed through select passages. Many find solace and guidance in the Bhagavad Gita’s timeless quotes, which offer fresh perspectives on life and help navigate its complexities.

Q: What is the most powerful message of Bhagwat Gita that could change my mind ?

Krishna said - there are no boundaries . The only boundaries which exist are within our minds. If you can move forward from those boundaries of mind , you become free: you suddenly belong to the greater dimension! You are not being identifying with any particular race or cast or color or clan. Loot at yourself as being beyond all that. Then only do you come to your greater reality . Then only does your action become more dynamic. And then only do you find a complete realization of your innate potential.

Q: What is the real success in life according to Bhagwat Gita ?

According to Bhagwat Gita - success is an arising of joy within us . It is an arising of a feeling of organic contentment. If you can feel that organic contentment, you are fulfilled. There are a lot of people with power and position in the world who are not really successful, because they don't feel bliss in their self-nature. They don't understand the bliss that is inherent in the bond between the individual soul and the supreme soul that Krishna represents.

gunas in gita

Q: What are the Gunas ?
In Bhagwat Gita VERSE 20, CHAPTER 14 Krishna talks about the Gunas. Everything emerges from the three modes of the natural process: Sattva (goodness, harmony)Rajas (passion, activity), and Tamas (ignorance, inertia)

Sattva is the quality of goodness, the state of yoga in action and thought that has harmony with the universal spirit. Sattva is a discipline, a devotion to the purpose, and a sacrifice in the form of detachment from the concept of 'I am the doer'. The goal of sattva is the welfare of all.
Rajas is the driving force of action, that seeks worldly pleasures. There is nothing wrong with having worldly pleasures as a goal; the only caution is the possibility of diversion from the real purpose of life. Most of us fall in the rajas category; we seek things that have to do with money and material wealth. The goals of rajas serve the self and the family.
Tamas is the principle of inertia, the root cause of all ill deeds. The goal of tamas is self-centric, and a hindrance in the universal goal. Tamas creates negativity in the natural process.

⭐ Here are few Bhagwat Gita Quotes with Shlokas ⭐
The Bhagavad Gita has 700 shlokas, or verses, across 18 chapters. Here are Few. We update the page regularly. bookmark this page -

1. Bhagawat Gita Shloka about three gunas

Shraddhayaa parayaa taptam tapastattrividham naraih; Aphalaakaangkshibhiryuktaih saattwikam parichakshate. Satkaaramaanapoojaartham tapo dambhena chaiva yat; Kriyate tadiha proktam raajasam chalamadhruvam. Moodhagraahenaatmano yat peedayaa kriyate tapah; Parasyotsaadanaartham vaa tattaamasamudaahritam.

The austerity, which is practiced without any desires or fruits is referred to as sattwic, the one which is practiced to gain honor and respect is rajasic, whereas the austerity through self-torture is termed as foolishness by Lord Krishna and represents tamasic people.

2. Bhagawat Gita Shloka about total deication to GOD.

Sri Bhagavaan Uvaacha: Mayyaasaktamanaah paartha yogam yunjanmadaashrayah; Asamshayam samagram maam yathaa jnaasyasi tacchrinu.

Lord Krishna informs Arjuna that to discover the inner self, one must be completely dedicated to God. If one sings glory for God, then one develops love and devotion towards him and in the process discovers himself. The discovery of himself involves the understanding that the nature of our soul and that of the Lord are the same.

3.Bhagawat Gita Shloka about true meaning of knowledge

Jnaanam te'ham savijnaanam idam
vakshyaamyasheshatah;
Yajjnaatwaa neha bhooyonyaj jnaatavyamavashishyate.
Manushyaanaam sahasreshu kashchidyatati siddhaye; Yatataamapi siddhaanaam kashchinmaam vetti tattwatah
Bhoomiraapo'nalo vaayuh kham mano buddhireva cha; Ahamkaara iteeyam me bhinnaa prakritirashtadhaa.

Here Lord Krishna explains the true meaning of knowledge to Arjuna. He mentions that even the elements of earth, air, water, ether, mind, egoism and intellect are all made up of him, but only a few people understand the true meaning of discovering the inner self.

4.Bhagawat Gita Shloka about attachment to actions

Tattwavittu mahaabaaho gunakarma vibhaagayoh; Gunaa guneshu vartanta iti matwaa na sajjate. Prakriter gunasammoodhaah sajjante gunakarmasu; Taan akritsnavido mandaan kritsnavin na vichaalayet. Mayi sarvaani karmaani sannyasyaadhyaatma chetasaa: Niraasheer nirmamo bhootwaa yudhyaswa vigatajwarah.

All actions should be performed with a sense of detachment and with a feeling that they are being performed for the Lord. To build a sense of detachment, an individual should feel that they are performing the action on behalf of God and deserve no credit for it. Dedication of the action to the Lord and performance of the action without any expectation can enable an individual to become detached from it.

5. Bhagawat Gita Shloka about sacrifice

Evam bahuvidhaa yajnaa vitataa brahmano mukhe; Karmajaan viddhi taan sarvaan evam jnaatwaa vimokshyase. Shreyaan dravyamayaadyajnaaj jnaanayajnah parantapa; Sarvam karmaakhilam paartha jnaane parisamaapyate.

Tadviddhi pranipaatena pariprashnena sevayaa;
Upadekshyanti te jnaanam jnaaninas tattwadarshinah

It is said that among all forms of sacrifice, the sacrifice of knowledge is most important, as actions eventually lead to wisdom. Sacrificing knowledge implies guiding others with wisdom towards an understanding of the human soul. An association with wise people who are self-realized, help us to attain wisdom. Similarly, if we associate and become friends with those who lack awareness and the rightful qualities, we too will become like them. Hence, we need to choose our associates carefully.
