Rajas is the driving force of action, that seeks worldly pleasures. Most of us fall in the rajas category; we seek things that have to do with money and material wealth. The goals of rajas serve the self and the family.

Tamas is the principle of inertia, the root cause of all ill deeds. The goal of tamas is self-centric, and a hindrance in the universal goal. Tamas creates negativity in the natural process.

1. Bhagawat Gita Shloka about three gunas 

Shraddhayaa parayaa taptam tapastattrividham naraih; Aphalaakaangkshibhiryuktaih saattwikam parichakshate. Satkaaramaanapoojaartham tapo dambhena chaiva yat; Kriyate tadiha proktam raajasam chalamadhruvam. Moodhagraahenaatmano yat peedayaa kriyate tapah; Parasyotsaadanaartham vaa tattaamasamudaahritam.

The austerity, which is practiced without any desires or fruits is referred to as sattwic, the one which is practiced to gain honor and respect is rajasic, whereas the austerity through self-torture is termed as foolishness by Lord Krishna and represents tamasic people.

2. Bhagawat Gita Shloka about total deication to GOD.

Sri Bhagavaan Uvaacha: Mayyaasaktamanaah paartha yogam yunjanmadaashrayah; Asamshayam samagram maam yathaa jnaasyasi tacchrinu.

Lord Krishna informs Arjuna that to discover the inner self, one must be completely dedicated to God. If one sings glory for God, then one develops love and devotion towards him and in the process discovers himself. The discovery of himself involves the understanding that the nature of our soul and that of the Lord are the same.

Jnaanam te'ham savijnaanam idam 

vakshyaamyasheshatah;

Yajjnaatwaa neha bhooyonyaj jnaatavyamavashishyate.

Here Lord Krishna explains the true meaning of knowledge to Arjuna. He mentions that even the elements of earth, air, water, ether, mind, egoism and intellect are all made up of him, but only a few people understand the true meaning of discovering the inner self.

4.Bhagawat Gita Shloka about attachment to actions

Tattwavittu mahaabaaho gunakarma vibhaagayoh; Gunaa guneshu vartanta iti matwaa na sajjate. Prakriter gunasammoodhaah sajjante gunakarmasu; Taan akritsnavido mandaan kritsnavin na vichaalayet. Mayi sarvaani karmaani sannyasyaadhyaatma chetasaa: Niraasheer nirmamo bhootwaa yudhyaswa vigatajwarah.

All actions should be performed with a sense of detachment and with a feeling that they are being performed for the Lord. To build a sense of detachment, an individual should feel that they are performing the action on behalf of God and deserve no credit for it. Dedication of the action to the Lord and performance of the action without any expectation can enable an individual to become detached from it.

Evam bahuvidhaa yajnaa vitataa brahmano mukhe; Karmajaan viddhi taan sarvaan evam jnaatwaa vimokshyase. Shreyaan dravyamayaadyajnaaj jnaanayajnah parantapa; Sarvam karmaakhilam paartha jnaane parisamaapyate.

Tadviddhi pranipaatena pariprashnena sevayaa;
